Ellen Fleishman

Where did you lead your first walk for Shorewalkers?

My first walk was “Election Day on the Boardwalk” in 2019 with co-leader Barbara Lanzara. We walked the boardwalk through Coney Island and Brighton Beach to the Manhattan Beach area and ended in Sheepshead Bay. An overcast but beautiful day highlighting the ocean’s mystery.  Lots of good camaraderie as we walked along the boardwalk, found a place for lunch and enjoyed the outdoors!

What types of walks do you enjoy leading?

I especially like leading walks in wooded, natural areas outside the city. NY’s Hudson Valley is one of my favorites and I’ve led walks to Newburgh, Stony Point and Bannerman Castle on Pollepol Island.

I really enjoy Croton Point Park since it is very accessible to Metro North.  I also love the Poughkeepsie Rail/Trail and the views over the bridge.  The walkway leads to a path extending across New York State.  I dream of walking the entire length someday.

Where can we find you when you’re not leading a walk?

I love the theater, museums, lunch and dinner with friends at restaurants, international travel with my husband, visiting my children and grandchildren abroad and in Colorado.
