Dutchess County Rail Trail

Walk the new Dutchess County rail trail from Hopewell Junction to Poughkeepsie.  Pass lakes and woods, backyards and farms on this walk along the old railroad right-of-way, now paved for recreational use.  Includes the Walkway over the Hudson, the old Poughkeepsie railway bridge that has been recently converted to a pedestrian walkway. 13 miles from Hopewell Junction to the Walkway, and about 4 more miles over the walkway and back and ending at the Poughkeepsie Metro-North station.

MEET: 10:30 am at the Metro-North BEACON station platform. Take the Metro North Hudson Line train from Grand Central to the BEACON station. CALL THE LEADER by 6:00 PM the evening before the walk to arrange transportation from the Beacon train station to the Hopewell Junction trailhead. Note: This is a long walk with no opportunity to turn back or drop out before reaching the Walkway Over the Hudson (13 miles).
