About 7 miles, we should be finished around 4:00 p.m., moderate pace, sidewalks all the way.
When Edgar Allan Poe lived in the Bronx he would frequently walk down to the High Bridge. Now that the High Bridge has been re-opened, we will follow in his steps. We'll start by viewing a photography exhibit on the High Bridge in the Poe Park Visitor Center then tour the Poe Cottage (free admission to the visitor center, $5 admission to the cottage.)
Next we'll walk west on Kingsbridge Road to Aqueduct Walk, a pathway built on top of the old Croton Aqueduct. We'll walk south on top of the aqueduct to Bronx Community College and stop to eat lunch at the Hall of Fame of Great Americans, then continue south along the aqueduct to the High Bridge and cross to Manhattan, ending the walk at Broadway and 168th Street for the A and 1 trains.
Bring lunch, snacks, drinks, we'll eat outside at Bronx Community College.
Meet: 10:30 a.m. at the Poe Park Visitor Center, 2640 Grand Concourse at East 193rd Street. Take the D train to the Kingsbridge Road station and walk south along the Grand Concourse or take the 4 train to the Kingsbridge Road station and walk east on Kingsbridge Road to the Grand Concourse.
Here is a link to the subway service advisories for July 25th; none directly affect the walk: July 25 Service Advisories
