A strenuous hike, not for beginners. Hike the Appalachian Trail up a steep climb known as Agony Grind, pass Indian Hill to Little Dam Lake. At E. Mombasha Road we will turn back to the start. Great views and plenty of steep terrain.
Bring plenty of water, lunch and good footwear.
Take N.Y. Route 17 north through Sloatsburg, Tuxedo and Southfields. About two miles north of Southfields, turn right onto Arden Valley Road. Cross the bridge over the New York State Thruway, then make the first right at a sign "Hikers' Trailhead Parking." Park in the dirt parking area to the west of a large meadow, known as the Elk Pen, (41.264792,-74.15426 ). Hike begins promptly at 10 AM. Bring lunch and water. Rain cancels.
