Tarrytown to the New Croton Dam via the Old Croton Aqueduct

Distance: 20 miles

Join us on 09 September as we continue up the Old Croton Aqueduct to its beginning at the New Croton Dam. Take the 8:20 out of Grand Central to the Tarrytown train station where we will meet for a 9:30 departure along surface streets to the north side of the Sleepy Hollow Middle/ High school where we'll pick up the Aqueduct. We'll walk along the Rockefeller Preserve and Rockwood Hall, through Archville, Scarborough, and Briarcliff Manor before reaching Ossining (~10 miles) where we'll stop for water, snacks, and bathroom breaks. From Ossining, it's another 5.5 miles to the Dam. There are bathrooms at the Dam, but no food or water is available here. After a break we'll start back down the Aqueduct trail to start a 3.5 mile walk to the Croton Harmon train station. This part of the walk starts on the Aqueduct but takes surface streets for most of the way to the station. There's a 5:31, a 5:47, and 6 pm trains to Grand Central.

There are limited bathroom facilities along this section of the trail. Please bring an adequate supply of water and light snacks. Total distance for this hike is about 20 miles, including wandering around the Dam and park. I'd like to keep to a 3+ mph pace due to daylight constraints. Drop off points will be Scarborough train station, and Ossining train station and bus routes down Rte 9. Train fare is $10.75 each way."
