Italian Ice Hike in the Bronx (Vegan Friendly)

Kick off Labor Day weekend with an after-work 5 mile hike sampling from two great Italian ice/ice-cream/dessert places in the Bronx.

MEET: Buhre Station of 6 train 6:30pm
END: City Island
PACE: moderately brisk (about 3mph), restroom stop

Flat terrain, walking through residential neighborhoods and Pelham Bay Park, ending on the beautiful City Island main street. Our first Italian ice shop is close to our meeting place. We will stop here briefly to sample the sweets. We probably won't stick around to eat at the place because it's a small space and we want to get to City Island before it gets too dark. We will load up on napkins and eat as we walk. We will walk through Pelham Bay Park, see where Anne Hutchinson's independent colony was situated and make our way to City Island. We will end the walk at a great dessert and ices place with outdoor seating.

Both places have a variety of milk-free items.

Please note:  Some people are uncomfortable crossing bridges, so please keep in mind when RSVP-in that during this hike, we will be crossing two relatively short bridges. In particular, the one from Pelham Bay Park to City Island is over open water.

From City Island, you can take the Bx29 to Bay Plaza or to the 6 Train (start point of the walk), where you can switch to other Bx buses - in particular the Bx12 which will take you to the Pelham Parkway station (2 and 5 trains).
